Generally these are the most common types of saltwater aquariums kept by the marine hobbyist:

• Tropical marine tank, which houses fish from exotic origins, temperatures circulates between 76-82°F. People are more likely to keep tropical marine tanks because they are fairly easy saltwater aquariums to maintain and have fascinating color schemes.

• Temperate marine or coldwater marine tank, housing fish of temperate climates are rather dark and cloudy saltwater aquariums. Kept at a temperature usually around 50-75°F this coldwater marine isn’t much of an attractive feature to look at. You should already know that finding coldwater fish is a rare opportunity and you’ll have more luck getting a specimen by going out on a fishing trip than locating a store who sells saltwater aquariums and coldwater species. They also require a certain level of skill and knowledge to keep successfully. Most skilled hobbyist start at a very young age as it takes years of experience to effectively maintain this type of saltwater aquariums.
