Aquarium: glass or acrylic, sizes between 20 to 300 gallons, anything around 40 to 100 gallons comes recommend for saltwater aquariums |
Filtration equipment: wet and dry filters, protein skimmers, sometimes with refugiums and sump |
Lighting: fluorescents, metal halide, LED’s always consider wattage and color temperature |
Heating: Aquarium Heater or Chillers are used to level out the ambient temperature in which the aquarium resides. Heating up or cooling down the water, naturally simulating the environment for your marine reefs. |
Live rock: Live rocks and Live sand, collected from ocean coral reefs like Fiji and the Caribbean is usually applied to keep healthy aquaria, being covered with beneficial algae and bacteria the micro fauna buffers the carbonate hardness (KH also known as alkalinity). The detrivores and herbivores found on live rock are great natural waste decomposers. |
Water test: Consider to research the water chemistry and accordingly maintain parameters for the organism you whish to keep. Recommended test for calcium, strontium, iodine, alkalinity, molybdenum are usually purchased with specific gravity, pH, and the nitrogen cycle tests. |
Acclimation: A slowly process where organisms who lack osmoregulation, adjust to the new environment and its water composition. Gradually mix water from the tank with water holding the new inhabitant. |
Water changes: This maintenance task is a must to keeping good saltwater aquariums, replacing a fraction of the aquarium water capacity, preferably with water from the same source. Being de-ionized, distilled, reverse osmosis or coming from a municipal source. To stabilize the pH, aging and aerating with a power head or air stone is recommended. However larger sizes (200 US gal) don’t require water changes, because the larger capacity allows a full nitrogen cycle, supplements like calcium are still necessary. |
For that reason I sensibly recommend only the best saltwater aquariums for beginners to avoid any frustration, why not get started with one of our saltwater aquarium packages
Most of them are made from acrylic but you should be able to find glass saltwater aquarium tanks that meet your needs comfortably. Feel free to take a look in our Marine Aquarium eShop to see if you would like some other model than the current saltwater aquariums displayed.

One I can recommend is the Red Sea Max series; |
