You can go a little crazy, if you like, coordinating your choice of accents - such as stones, ribbons or beads - to match the color of your fish. Lastly, you'll need to acquire water conditioner to remove chlorine from it, some food and a fish net.

Putting it All Together

The most difficult aspect about owning a Betta fish is setting up its living quarters. It isn't all that hard to do, and once it is complete you will have a beautiful accent to your home.

Make sure that you wash the stones first along with the container, bowl or vase. Once washed, place these at the bottom of the container covering it about 1 inch deep. Now fill the container with water until it is about an inch below the neck. This will allow the Betta fish to have some room to breathe since they are top water fish. Also, your chosen plant will occupy space in the neck.

Condition the water with about 10 drops to properly remove the chlorine. It is important to make the water safe for your fish. Your other option is to use bottled water but this can become expensive in a short time. After you have thoroughly washed out the roots of the plant, make sure you cut a hole in the plastic insert to allow it to poke through the top. Gently place the plant through the hole and into the container.
